Adolfo Baloncieri
Adolfo Baloncieri, born in Castelceriolo on 27 July 1897, was a prominent figure in the Italian football landscape, distinguishing himself both as a player, in the role of midfielder or forward, and subsequently as a manager. His figure is unanimously considered by sports critics as that of one of the greatest exponents of football of his era.
His extraordinary talent received praise from the most authoritative commentators: Gianni Brera compared him to legends such as Giuseppe Meazza and Valentino Mazzola, defining him as one of the best inside forwards of all time, while historian Carlo Felice Chiesa indicated him as one of the greatest playmakers in the history of world football. Baloncieri furthermore represented a historical link with the origins of the national team, having been the last survivor of the Italian squad that participated in the 1920 Olympics.
